The key objective of the project is the commercialisation of a methane abatement technology for application in manure management.
The project is led by GlasPort Bio, which has developed a slurry additive targeting microorganisms associated with the emissions of methane and other polluting gases when added periodically to stored slurry and manure. According to the project developer, GasAbate N+ reduces emissions of greenhouse gases, while increasing biogas yields and increasing the fertilization value of the slurry. The product does not require specialist equipment and can be applied without disrupting existing work flows on farm or at the anaerobic digestion plant.
The project involved the development of large-scale manufacturing, including verification of product shelf-life and storage conditions, identification of raw material suppliers and CMOs. The validation of large-scale efficacy of the product was conducted through farm-level trials at Teagasc, Ireland, as well as a second location in the EU, with anaerobic digestion for energy production and agronomic studies performed on-site.
